The pure Schmidt is considered one of the better instrument for astrophotography thanks to very high brghtness and large, true pin point, correct field.
Many of the "old" plates obtained in the past with Schmidt telescopes still today as reference for resolution and field extension. This optic scheme is also very "simple": only one mirror and one corrector plate!
This you guarantee the maximum light transmission.
With this optics Officina Stellare introduce a modern tool for the imaging of the sky.
The high brightness joined to the sensitivity and dynamic of CCD can be now used to grab the sky trough very narrow band filters. To examine the hidden details of nebulas or to fight the most light polluted skies. Each OTA is CNC machined to the highest tolerances and is computer optimizing for lightweight operation with structural rigidity. The primary mirror support system, corrector plate support system, spider, CCD support, front and rear rings and all small parts are fully CNC machined from aluminum, stainless steel or brass. The OTA is entirely realized in truss carbon fiber for the maximum lightness and to make absolutely stable the focus position thanks to the thermal expansion characteristics of this material. The primary mirror support cell has absolutely no mirror-shift or mirror-flop.
The fixed primary mirror also has axial and radial support. The primary mirror support and rear assembly are designed to provide excellent ventilation and removal of internal residual heat. Air circulation is accomplished via three axial fans. Included is an external on/off and speed control for the fans. Three adjustable rear assembly openings provide thermal convention adjustments to the primary mirror. Three point collimation of the primary mirror, each can be locked into place once collimation is achieved.
The support of the CCD at camera focus is a true mechanics masterpiece. The mechanics allow the micrometrical setting of centering and perpendicularity of the focus plane and, keeping the obstruction to the least possible, contains an innovative, motorized, high precision focusing system (based on ATC-02 electronic). Standard 2" filters can be easily installed or removed in the front of CCD through two comfortable openings side by side, useful also for every kind of internal maintenance. All parts are anodized or multi-coat painted. The light path is fully baffled and coated with a very high quality opaque paint to provide the highest degree of protection from stray light.
The II Generation of DSC uses an innovative two elements corrector for cover the full-frame format (24x36 mm). In this way, you can use one of the follow CCDs cameras:
SXVH16: 4.2Mp, 7.4mn (15.15x15.15 mm), res. 3.05 arcsec/px
SXVF-M25: 6.0Mp, 7.8mn (23.40x15.60 mm), res. 3,22 arcsec/px
SXVR-H18: 8.3Mp, 5.4mn (17.96x13.52 mm), res. 2,23 arcsec/px
