LS200THa Double Pass Solar Telescope

LS200THa Double Pass Solar Telescope

Product code: LT200
Manufacturer: Lunt
Please contact us to confirm the price

The LS200THaDP is a complete Solar Telescope. The Newtonian based system is a telescope with rings and has an aperture of 200 mm. The focal ratio is F/6 with a collimating set. The focal length is 1200mm providing a ~11.8 mm image through a 18 mm blocking filter as a standart, optimized for visual observing and webcam imaging. For 35 mm Camera imaging we recomment to order the Telescope with the B3200 Blocking filter for better illumination as a larger backfocus is necessary.

Specifications:

  • Aperture: 200mm High Quality Mirror
  • Focal Length: 1200mm Effective
  • Band Pass: <0.55 Angstroms RMS
  • Focuser: Precision Crayford style with 10:1 included, Starlight Instruments Feather Touch
  • Color: Pearl White Body with Black Anodize Accents

The Double Pass System...

The best views of the Sun are undoubtedly seen thru a dual etalon system. The reduction in bandpass from an estimated 0.8 Angstroms to 0.5 Angstroms just seem to bring the Sun's surface to life. Larger apertures on a good seeing day usually result in a WOW! from those who are lucky enough. Adding a second etalon to an existing etalon is not quite as simple as it may seem. Both etalons need to be brought on line (tuned) and both need to be tiltable such that all ghosts are eliminated. Ideally the transmission curves should overlap perfectly when on band to provide for the best possible resolution and contrast. Lunt Solar has engineered a system that takes into account all these issues. The light from the primary mirror is passed thru the same etalon twice. Given that the etalon is tuned on band for the first pass it is, by default, on band for the second pass and is a perfect match to itself. The loss of transmission due to the beamsplitting or doublestacking is more than made up for with the increase in aperture.

Although the LS200T utilizes a 200mm F6 mirror the collimating set have been optimized to assure elimination of abberations at the desired wavelengths.

In addition to the Patent Pending optical design Lunt Solar has taken additional steps to ensure that this will be a scope on everyone's wish list this year.

  • An infra red reflecting window (ERF) is provided early in the optical path to remove unwanted heat from the system.
  • An optically optimized collimating system ensures true collimation, coma correction, and off axis (sweet spot) reduction.
  • Our newly designed Induced Transmission Filter (previous post) will ensure long term safety and performance.
  • Focus is achieved with a high precision Crayford style focuser with a 10:1 reduction included.

The system has an estimated bandpass of <0.55 Angstroms and is capable to providing ultra high resolution and high contrast views of both surface and edge detail under good to excellent seeing conditions.

The LS200 will soon be available with the CaK secondary option. This option will have a second focus system 180 degrees from the Ha. This system will house CaK filter optics. This allows for simultaneous viewing of the Sun in both Ha and CaK thru the same telescope.

Two models are available: LS200THa/B1800 for visual and webcam and LS200THa/B3200 for visual and 35 mm Cameras.
