Description

Explore Scientific ED 165mm f/7 FPL-53 Apochromatic Triplet Refractor Telescope

The Explore Scientific ED APO 165mm f/7 Carbon FPL-53 3" is the latest development in the line of Explore Scientific's excellent Apochromatic range of refractors.  This 6.5-inch instrument offers superb colour correction and pin-sharp views and images, due to its triplet design lens, which features one FPL-53 ED element, offering excellent spherical aberration control and colour correction with a guaranteed polystrehl value in the high 97%.

No one telescope "does it all", but a 6-inch Apo certainly covers most of the bases required of a versatile large observer's telescope.  It will show significant improvement over a 5-inch class refractor in terms of light gathering power and resolution, making it a better choice of instrument for visual observation of lunar, planetary and deep sky targets.  Not only that, but this telescope is an excellent astrograph, with a medium-length focal ratio, which delivers excellent deep sky images (which can be reduced in field size and equivalent focal length yet further with the use of the Explore Scientific 0.7x Focal Reducer-Corrector) and can also be used to impressive extent for imaging of the planets and the Moon (we'd recommend the use of one of the excellent Explore Scientific Focal Extender Barlow for solar system imaging).

While not as lightweight as the smaller triplets in the Explore Scientific range, at 13.2kgs weight, the Explore Scientific ED APO 165mm f/7 Carbon FPL-53 3" can be mounted to equatorial mounts in the EQ6 class and upward (though we'd recommend the minimum of the Explore Scientific G11 PMC-Eight GOTO Mount or Skywatcher NEQ6/EQ6-R Pro Synscan for imaging purposes).

This excellent telescope is the currently largest representative of a new line of apochromatic refractors by EXPLORE SCIENTIFIC. The completely new designed optics contains the special glas FPL-53, and delivers stunning sharpness and contrast without any trace of color abberation. For a apochromatic refractor of this size the focal ratio is relatively fast - the f/7 optics is thus also very suitable for astrophotography. For this reason we added one of the world’s top focusers - the high precision and the famed rigidity of the 3" Feathertouch focuser make focusing an easy task - and unwanted movements of the sensor during exposure do not happen. The result of this combination of outstanding optics, top level mechanics and the relatively low weight is a extremely versatile telescope that wil not only give images of the moon and planets that are perfect. It will also exceed the expectations of even the most demanding amateur astronomers in the field of astrophotography.
